Home Sweet Home

Karibu nyumbani !

Can’t believe it’s been a month already ! Crazy !

Today I’m going to present our home sweet home, nyumbani (I’m working hard on my Swahili so please excuse the linguistic invasion from time to time).

To be honest it was a bit of a rocky start, as our little house had been unoccupied for several months. No beds, mattresses on the floor, only one mosquito net, dirty rooms and bed sheets, no running water and no electricity (although we were aware of this before coming)… Quite the shock on our first night !
However, the good side of having a rocky start is that you value improvement a lot more than you’d imagine !

Thanks to our nice landlord Jacob, we went from harsh conditions to a comfortable household in less than a month.
We now have beds (and princess mosquito nets), as well as comfortable furniture, little carpets, clean sheets and even… a shaky Wi-Fi ! Newest addition to make our lives even more advanced! (the contrast never ceases to amaze me: no running water, no stable electricity BUT 3G everywhere, almost. Progress…)

Our little home is now a comfortable and safe haven, and it makes the whole experience that much easier; when we’ve had a busy day on the field, which can be quite challenging and tiring, we know that we will come home to a quiet and relaxing environment, and it helps !
